Spanish I – ER Verbs

Most Spanish words that end in ER are verbs.

All verbs have two parts to them:
an ending

When you remove the ending,
the part that remains is called the stem.

Every verb has 2 parts:

There are 3 types of verb categories:
AR, ER & IR
The ER tells us which endings to use.

The stem tells the action
  • comer com = eat
  • beber beb = drink
  • leer le     = read

The ending o means I
  •   bebo = I am drinking
  •      leo = I am reading
  • vendo = I am selling
  •  como = I am eating
  •  corro = I am running

The ending es means you
  •   bebes = you are drinking
  •      lees = you are reading
  • vendes = you are selling
  •  comes = you are eating
  •  corres = you are running

The ending e means he, she, it,
and the formal you (usted)
  •   bebe = he is drinking
  • she is drinking
  • it is drinking
  • you (usted) are drinking
  •  come = he is eating
  • she is eating
  • it is eating
  • you (usted) are eating

  •   bebemos = we are drinking
  •      leemos = we are reading
  • vendemos = we are selling
  •  comemos = we are eating
  •  corremos = we are running

you (vosotros)
  •   bebéis = you (vosotros) are drinking
  •      leéis   = you (vosotros) are reading
  • vendéis = you (vosotros) are selling
  •  coméis = you (vosotros) are eating

they and you (ustedes)
  •   beben = they are drinking
  • you (ustedes) are drinking
  • comen = they are eating
